About James

James (Jim) Scarfone serves as Counsel to Scarfone Hawkins, the firm that bears his family name, after decades as a trial lawyer. He earned a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1970 and an LL.B. from the University of Windsor in 1973, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1975. His practice has focused on personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and professional negligence, often for clients affected by catastrophic accidents or negligent advice. Jim is a mediator trained in the Harvard Method and prefers, where possible, to resolve disputes outside the courtroom. He has been a founding director and past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, a past president of the Hamilton Law Association, and a Law Society of Upper Canada bencher since 2011. Today he mentors newer lawyers at the firm.
