Gerald Ghikas is a nationally and internationally recognized Canadian commercial arbitrator who has served as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator or tribunal chair in numerous international and non-international commercial arbitrations, both ad hoc and institutional, over more than 40 years. His experience spans construction and infrastructure disputes, energy industry disputes, finance and capital markets, FRAND patent licensing and other intellectual property matters, manufacturing and distribution, mining, partnerships and joint ventures, and real estate. Before establishing an independent arbitration practice in January 2013, he was a partner of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where he served as Head of Commercial Litigation and then Managing Partner before founding and chairing the firm's International Arbitration Group. He was appointed King's Counsel in 2001, is the founder of the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society, and is ranked Band 1 in Chambers Global, Canada. He has served as Chair of the Arbitration Legislation Review Project of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada, Executive Editor of the Canadian Journal of Commercial Arbitration, Chair of the ICC National Arbitration Committee for Canada, Vice-President of the North American Users Council of the LCIA, and Canadian delegate to UNCITRAL Working Group II.
