Dominique Gilbert has been based at Dunton Rainville's Sherbrooke office since 2019 and has been a member of the Barreau since 2003, after completing his law degree at the Université de Sherbrooke in 2002. He began his career at the Bernard Roy firm (Justice Québec), representing the Attorney General of Quebec in administrative and constitutional law matters, and pleaded before every level of court in Quebec during his six years there, including before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. Dominique Gilbert also took part in numerous negotiations involving Quebec First Nations along with the federal and provincial governments. From 2008, he continued his practice at a national firm, applying his litigation experience to civil and commercial litigation, representing corporations as well as liability insurance funds and financial institutions. Since 2014, Dominique Gilbert has refined his commercial law skills to include transactional law, while continuing to represent clients before courts in Quebec and elsewhere. With his partner, Andrée-Anne Ouimette, he opened a boutique commercial law firm in 2017, which merged with Dunton Rainville at the end of 2019, and he has taught at the Université de Sherbrooke's Faculty of Law for more than ten years as part of the Laskin national moot court competition.
