Christopher J. Foy Dispute Resolution is a solo arbitration, mediation, and workplace law practice run by lawyer Christopher J. Foy, with offices in Vancouver and Toronto and appointments available across Canada. Foy holds a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University and the University of Toronto and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, with graduate work that focused on workplace law. Foy also completed a certificate in Mediation and Conflict Management at Harvard Law School and a certificate in Adjudication for Administrative Agencies, Boards and Tribunals at Osgoode Hall. Foy is on the Ontario Minister of Labour's List of Grievance Arbitrators and in the Register of Arbitrators for the British Columbia Labour Relations Board, and holds the Qualified Mediator designation from the ADR Institute of Canada.
Before establishing this practice, Foy articled at the Toronto firm Weir Foulds LLP, then moved to Vancouver and worked at Paine Edmonds before joining the labour law firm McGrady & Company in 2003. A secondment to the Ontario Ipperwash Inquiry followed in July 2004, then a 2008 to 2009 sabbatical at Koskie Minsky LLP in Toronto, before a partnership at the Vancouver firm Kestrel Workplace Legal Counsel LLP. Foy provided legal services to individuals and unions in both the private and public sector, with more than twenty years of union and non-union advocacy across sectors including aviation, banking, construction, health care and telecommunications, before turning to dispute resolution work as a neutral, deciding matters rather than arguing them.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentThe practice keeps two offices rather than one, a reflection of a career that has moved between British Columbia and Ontario. The Vancouver office, at 2695 Granville Street, Suite 702, is the same suite where Kestrel Workplace Legal Counsel LLP operated for years before Foy moved into independent practice. The Toronto office, at 18 King Street East, sits in the city where Foy articled at Weir Foulds LLP and later returned for a sabbatical at Koskie Minsky LLP.
Because Foy works chiefly as an arbitrator and mediator rather than a firm serving walk-in clients, hearings and mediations are arranged by appointment and can be held at either office or by video-conference for parties elsewhere in Canada.
