About Borins & Company

Borins & Company is a small labour and employment law firm in Vancouver's Yaletown neighbourhood, at 860 Homer Street. David Borins founded the firm in 2012, after moving to Vancouver in 1992 to complete an undergraduate degree and a law degree at UBC. Borins spent about a decade at Farris LLP before becoming an equity partner at the national firm Heenan Blaikie, and has practiced law for over 20 years.

The firm's clients are mostly trade unions, including several operating in the maritime sector, along with societies, non-profit associations, employers, and employees. Its work spans grievance arbitrations, bargaining unit certifications, workplace investigations, and government relations submissions on regulatory and statutory changes. Borins & Company also represented a trade union in a Federal Court judicial review of federal work permit practices for foreign vessel crews, a case that led to a 2017 settlement changing those practices. Lawyer Melodie Ureten, who completed a law degree at UBC's Allard Hall, now handles employment, labour, and family law matters, while Titus Gregory, a Designated Paralegal with the firm since September 2014, represents clients independently through the Law Society of British Columbia's Innovation Sandbox Program.
