Butterfield Law is a small law firm in Victoria, BC, built around a bespoke, unbundled model: clients choose the specific services they need rather than pay for a full package. The practice is run by two people, Michael Butterfield, J.D., a lawyer and accredited mediator and arbitrator with close to 20 years of experience, and Jayne Embree, M.A., who holds a master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Victoria. Embree spent 12 years in the Child and Youth Mental Health Division of the Ministry for Children and Families before training in collaborative family law, and works within the practice as a divorce coach and child specialist. The two have been married for 25 years and bring over 40 years of combined business and law expertise to the firm.

The firm's main focus is family law, favouring negotiation, mediation, collaborative law, and arbitration over a traditional courtroom divorce to cut the cost and conflict of separation. It also advises small businesses at a controlled cost and handles contract disputes and real estate or renovation disputes, positioning its unbundled services as an alternative to hiring in house counsel. Michael Butterfield also writes and teaches on alternative dispute resolution, family law, interpersonal violence, and business practices. The firm works out of a single office on Richmond Road in Victoria.
