About Atkins & Company

Atkins & Company is a Victoria, British Columbia law firm that's practised entertainment law exclusively since 1990, making it the first firm in Western Canada built solely around that field. Founder Andrew Atkins was called to the bar in 1986. Atkins spent two years in legal and business affairs at a Canadian music talent agency, then three years with the entertainment group at Russell & DuMoulin in Vancouver, now Fasken, before setting up an independent practice focused on film, television, and music work.

Atkins studied at the University of British Columbia, the Universite de la Sorbonne, Universite d'Aix-Marseille III in France, and the Universite de Sherbrooke, and earned a law degree from the University of Victoria in 1985. The firm advises producers, distributors, recording companies, management companies, and artists, covering rights acquisition through distribution and exploitation, recording and licensing deals, management and performer agreements, and incorporations for production and music companies. Atkins has also lectured at the University of British Columbia's law school and taught music law and business courses at the Trebas Music Institute.
