About Redstone Family Law

Redstone Family Law is a Red Deer family law firm working with individuals and families in the city and right across Central Alberta. It takes on separation and divorce, parenting and custody, child and spousal support, the division of property, family agreements and protection orders, and it represents clients when a case goes to family court.

Emmanuel Oyesomi, LLB, founded the firm and is its family lawyer. Before Redstone, Emmanuel Oyesomi practised family law in Calgary, combined family law with civil litigation in Newfoundland and Labrador, and did civil litigation outside Canada, then, after moving to Red Deer, ran a busy family caseload at a family law firm for nearly two years. Appearances before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King's Bench have taken place in Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton, among other Alberta court centres, and they range from chambers applications and emergency protection hearings to trials. Emmanuel Oyesomi has also acted for clients in mediations, arbitrations and Judicial Dispute Resolution.

Emmanuel Oyesomi is licensed by the Law Society of Alberta, is now working toward a part-time Professional LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and once sat on the board of End Sexual Violence, NL.

For common, defined-scope work, the fees are set in advance: separation, cohabitation and prenuptial agreements, desk divorces and independent legal advice all come at a flat rate when they stay within the standard scope, and complex or contested files are billed by the hour at a rate agreed before any work begins. The downtown office at 4909 50 St is open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and the firm serves families well beyond the city, in towns like Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Lacombe and Olds. Zoe Nathaniel, who runs client services and administration, is often the first person new clients speak with and looks after inquiries, intake and consultation bookings.

Practice areas

Separation and divorce

Redstone works with people who want a negotiated separation and with those who need someone in family court, covering contested divorces as well as uncontested and joint ones. It can draft a separation agreement, negotiate it with the other side or check one over before you sign, and it can step in when the other party isn't following an agreement or order.

Parenting and guardianship

Parenting work runs from practical plans covering schedules, holidays, school breaks and transportation to parenting order applications, variations and enforcement. Redstone also handles guardianship applications and advises grandparents whose relationship with a child has been affected by separation or family conflict.

Child, spousal and partner support

Redstone helps clients set, negotiate, change and enforce support, including Maintenance Enforcement Program issues where they apply. It deals with harder income questions such as self-employment, business and variable income, and with support claims after an adult interdependent relationship ends.

Family property division

On property, the firm helps clients sort out which issues are in play, get financial disclosure, test competing claims and work toward settling them. That can take in pensions, CPP credits, business interests, valuation disagreements, assets that haven't been disclosed and property questions for common-law couples.

Family agreements

Redstone prepares, reviews and negotiates separation, cohabitation, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and gives independent legal advice on them. Where a couple qualifies for a desk divorce, it prepares and files the paperwork.

Protection and emergency matters

For situations that can't wait, Redstone handles Emergency Protection Orders, restraining orders, urgent parenting applications and family violence matters, and advises on when an EPO may be available and what comes after it.

How Redstone Family Law works

Redstone's way of working comes down to four words: clarity, strategy, advocacy and compassion. In practice that means setting out Alberta family law in everyday terms, laying out a client's options and building a plan around that person's actual situation. When a dispute can be settled, the firm pushes for a practical outcome through negotiation or alternative dispute resolution; when court can't be avoided, it's ready to argue the case.

The firm commits to a prompt, welcoming reply and to understanding what's really going on behind a legal problem before it recommends a next step. Emmanuel Oyesomi set the practice up to pair sophisticated representation with individual attention and care for each client's circumstances.

The neighbourhood

Redstone works from 4909 50 St in downtown Red Deer. Since March 2025, every court service in Red Deer has operated from the city's new justice centre, which has 12 courtrooms fitted with video-conference equipment so a witness who can't travel can take part remotely and a vulnerable witness can give evidence from outside the room. The building also has three suites for judicial dispute resolution and a separate suite for processes such as family and civil mediation.

Frequently asked questions

What does Redstone Family Law charge for a separation agreement or a desk divorce?
Redstone Family Law charges a flat $2,500 plus GST for a separation agreement and $2,000 plus GST for a desk divorce, as long as the matter stays within the standard scope of the service. Cohabitation and prenuptial agreements are also $2,500 plus GST, and a postnuptial agreement is $3,000 plus GST. (Fees as of October 2026.)
My partner wants me to sign a prenup. Can Redstone give me independent legal advice for a flat fee?
Redstone Family Law's flat rate for independent legal advice is $700 plus GST for a matter within the standard scope. The firm goes through the agreement with you, explains what it does legally and which rights you might be keeping or giving up, and takes your questions before you make up your mind. (Fees as of October 2026.)
What if my agreement turns out to need more work than Redstone's flat rate covers?
Redstone Family Law tells you when a matter falls outside the standard scope before it does any extra work. Complex or contested work is billed by the hour, at a rate confirmed with you before it starts.
I live in Sylvan Lake. Does Redstone Family Law respond more slowly or charge more because I'm outside Red Deer?
Redstone Family Law's policy is that distance from its Red Deer office doesn't affect how fast it responds, what it costs to work with the firm or how seriously it treats your matter. Sylvan Lake is one of the Central Alberta communities the firm serves.
I've been served with a restraining-order application. Will Redstone act for the person responding?
Redstone Family Law acts for people responding to restraining-order applications as well as for people seeking protection.
How can Redstone prepare me for Mandatory Intake Triage under Alberta's Family Focused Protocol?
Redstone Family Law helps clients see where their case sits under the Family Focused Protocol, which changed how many Family and Divorce matters move through the Court of King's Bench, what steps may lie ahead and how to get ready for each one. Mandatory Intake Triage is a central part of that protocol, and Emmanuel Oyesomi has acted for clients at Mandatory Intake and Resolution Counsel conferences.
