What areas of law does Housen Law handle?

Housen Law handles wills and powers of attorney, estate law, real estate law, and family law. The firm's two lawyers work on these four areas rather than a broad general practice, meeting with clients in person at the Richmond Hill office.

Can the firm help me buy or sell a home in Richmond Hill?

Housen Law acts on residential real estate closings, including single family homes and condominiums, as well as commercial property purchases and sales. The firm reviews the Agreement of Purchase and Sale before it's signed and stays available if unanticipated issues come up after closing.

I need a will. Can the firm prepare one along with powers of attorney?

Housen Law prepares wills as well as Powers of Attorney for Property and for Personal Care. The firm also sets up testamentary trusts, for example for a minor child or a beneficiary with a disability, and can act on Guardian of Property or Guardian of the Person applications when someone becomes incapable without a Power of Attorney already in place.

Does Housen Law handle divorce and child custody matters?

Housen Law handles separation and divorce, child custody and access, child and spousal support, and domestic contracts such as cohabitation agreements and separation agreements. The firm tries to negotiate a separation agreement first but will go to court and advocate for a client when a matter can't be resolved that way.

I've been named executor of an estate. Can the firm help me administer it?

Housen Law assists estate trustees with applying for a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee, converting and distributing assets to beneficiaries, passing of accounts, and tax issues that come up during administration. The firm also represents estate trustees in claims made against the estate.
