Nishanthan Law Office is a sole-practitioner firm in Markham, Ontario, run by lawyer Umananthini (Uma) Nishanthan. Before that, Nishanthan practiced law in Vavuniya and Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 2002 until immigrating to Canada in 2009, after earning a law degree at the University of Colombo in 1999 and qualifying through the Sri Lanka Law College in 2000. Nishanthan also worked as a legal assistant at a Toronto real estate law firm before opening the practice, and had been a human rights law facilitator involved in a violence against women program run by non-governmental organizations in Sri Lanka.
