Michael G. McLachlan runs a sole criminal trial defence practice in Toronto, working from an office on St. Clair Avenue West. The practice has focused exclusively on criminal defence since 1974, taking on cases that range from driving offences and theft to drug offences, assault, fraud and homicide. The caseload spans the range of the Criminal Code, from property offences such as break and enter and fraud to serious violent charges including sexual assault and manslaughter, along with drug prosecutions covering possession, trafficking, production and importing.
McLachlan holds a Masters degree in Criminal Law and appears before both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. The practice isn't confined to the Greater Toronto Area: McLachlan has conducted trials in courts across the province, in cities including Elliot Lake, Kingston, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa, Ottawa, Peterborough and London, as well as Toronto. Outside the courtroom, McLachlan is a Francophile who also speaks some Spanish and German.
Wheelchair accessibleMichael G. McLachlan's office is in a highrise building at Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West, a stretch of midtown Toronto with a long history as a commercial office corridor. The building at 30 St. Clair Avenue West went up in 1986 and was designed by the architecture firm Page and Steele, and it sits at the same intersection as St. Clair subway station, which also serves the surrounding Deer Park neighbourhood. Because the practice takes cases to courts across Ontario rather than staying in one city, the midtown Toronto office functions as a home base rather than a storefront next to a local courthouse.
