Martínez Law is a solo criminal defence and human rights practice based in downtown Toronto. Shane Martínez founded the firm after working at a Toronto criminal defence firm during law school, assisting on cases that included charges of murder, prohibited firearms, fraud, and assault. The firm now serves clients across Toronto, Oshawa, North York, Scarborough, and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area, handling criminal defence alongside human rights complaints, police accountability matters, and prisoner justice issues such as parole hearings, coroner's inquests, and international prisoner transfers.
Martínez holds a B.A., an LL.B., and an L.E.C. From September 2013 to March 2014, Martínez took academic leave to become qualified to practice law in the Commonwealth Caribbean while living in Kingston, Jamaica, and worked with attorney-at-law Michael Lorne on the defence team for musician Shawn Storm in the Vybz Kartel murder trial. Back in Toronto, Martínez also teaches as an adjunct professor of prison law, policy, and reform at Osgoode Hall Law School. The firm offers services in both English and Spanish.
