Founder Lynn Mitchell was called to the Ontario bar in 1997 and practiced with two national firms before opening this practice. Mitchell also holds an MBA from the University of Toronto, along with a law degree from the same university earned on the Dean's List, and worked earlier in financial services as a manager and executive before moving into legal practice.

The neighbourhood
The firm's office is at 36 Toronto Street, the former Excelsior Life Building. Built in 1914 to a design by architect E.J. Lennox, the building carries heritage designation and sits within the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District. Toronto Street itself grew up as a corporate and financial hub in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and a 1986 to 1987 renovation joined the Lennox building with the adjoining 1874 Millichamps Building through a shared atrium.
