About Gray Defence

Clients rate this firm highly on Google.

Gray Defence is a criminal defence firm in downtown Toronto, founded by George Gray, a barrister and solicitor who was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2009. Before starting the practice, George Gray worked as a criminal litigator at a large national law firm and has since spent more than fifteen years defending people accused of crimes. The firm handles domestic assault, sexual offences, drug charges, driving offences, firearms and weapons charges, theft and fraud, and homicide and other serious violent offences, and it represents clients across Toronto and the GTA as well as other Ontario cities including Hamilton, London, Barrie, and Kingston.

George Gray has appeared at every level of court in Ontario and has prepared written advocacy for a matter before the Supreme Court of Canada. Outside the courtroom, George Gray is a recurring commentator on CBC's The National and created The Legal Gray Zone, a video series that breaks down how Canadian criminal law works. The practice describes its approach as an evidence-based defence, built around mastering the Crown's disclosure and preparing every file as though it's headed to trial. Services are offered in English and Spanish, and an associate lawyer at the firm also speaks Hindi and Punjabi.

The neighbourhood

The firm's Toronto office is at 65 Front Street East, a building in the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District that's designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. Completed in 1872, it faces the Gooderham Building, the city's well known 'Flatiron' landmark, along a stretch of Church and Front Streets East built up in the late 1800s around the rail lines and the market trade that once ran through the area. The polychrome brick and stone detailing on the building fits the row of similarly aged 19th century commercial buildings around it.
