About Chaabane Law

Chaabane Law is a sole practitioner criminal defence practice in downtown Toronto, run by Nadia Chaabane. Chaabane holds a double honours BA in philosophy and French from the University of Toronto and a law degree from the University of Birmingham in England, and has been licensed to practise law in Ontario since 2013. Before opening an independent practice in 2018, Chaabane articled with defence lawyer David Bayliss on serious matters including first-degree murder cases, then spent a few years working as an associate. Chaabane also holds Notary Public credentials.

The practice covers the full range of criminal law, with particular focus on youth (YCJA) matters, weapons and firearms charges, drug and alcohol offences, importing charges, bail hearings, and Charter motions, along with matters involving allegations of domestic violence. Chaabane Law offers a free consultation and describes itself as reachable around the clock. The firm also takes referrals through JusticeNet, a not-for-profit network that connects Ontario residents who earn too much for legal aid but too little for standard legal fees with lawyers offering reduced-rate services.

Who handles what

The neighbourhood

Chaabane Law's office is in the Dineen Building at 140 Yonge Street, on the corner of Temperance Street in downtown Toronto. The building was built in 1897 for the W. and F. Dineen hat and fur company and is now a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act. A 2012 restoration re-exposed the fifteen-foot ceilings on the Yonge Street storefront while turning the building into contemporary office space.
