Ettinger was born and raised in Thunder Bay and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lakehead University in 2004 before attending law school at the University of Manitoba, where a Pitblado Scholarship recognized a place on the Dean's Honour List in 2007. Licensed to practice law in Ontario in 2010, Ettinger spent the next seven years as an associate at Larson Lawyers, formerly known as Rene Larson Law Office, before opening this firm in 2017.

The firm concentrates on family law, handling contested and uncontested divorce, separation agreements, child custody and access, child and spousal support, and division and equalization of property, and it also prepares wills and powers of attorney.
