Uzma & Khalid Law Professional Corporation is a small firm built around two lawyers, and it takes its name from them. The practice works from two Ontario offices, one in Mississauga and one in Cambridge, and it serves clients across the Greater Toronto Area. Both lawyers have spent more than a decade practising in the region. Their work sits in four connected areas: real estate, corporate and business law, wills, estates and trusts, and notary and commissioner of oaths services.
Real estate is listed first among the firm's services. It handles residential and commercial deals, from purchases and sales to refinancing, and its focus is on protecting clients' interests leading up to and beyond the closing date. On the business side, the lawyers describe their job as listening first and then giving practical advice, rather than telling an owner how to run the company. The firm also drafts wills and helps with estate planning, and it makes the point that putting a valid will in place at the office is more straightforward than many people expect. Consultations can be booked through the firm's online scheduling link, and the Cambridge office brings the same services within reach of Waterloo Region.
The firm's Cambridge office sits at 48 Queen Street East, on the main street of Hespeler. Hespeler is one of the older towns, along with Galt and Preston, that came together in 1973 to form the City of Cambridge, and many locals still call the neighbourhood Hespeler rather than Cambridge. The village grew up around mills on the Speed River, and by the early 20th century its textile trade was a major regional industry. Queen Street remains the walkable heart of the village, lined with independent shops, restaurants and professional offices a short walk from the water.
There's a small coincidence in the firm's two addresses. Both offices stand on a Queen Street in a historic former village. The Mississauga office is in Streetsville, known as the Village in the City, whose Queen Street kept its old run of shops and churches after Streetsville became part of Mississauga in 1974. So whichever office a client visits, the door opens onto an old village main street rather than a tower or a business park.
