Hannan holds a BA in economics from the University of Toronto (2005), an MA in applied economics from the University of Waterloo (2007), and a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School (2011), and was called to the Ontario bar in 2012. Before law school, Hannan worked about a year as an analyst at Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator, then lectured in undergraduate economics at Waterloo and McMaster University, last teaching in 2014. Virdi holds an LLM from the University of Toronto, an LLB with first class honors from the University of Limerick in Ireland, where Virdi won the Matheson Contract Law Prize, and a BA with distinction from York University.
