About D. Larry Segal Law Offices

D. Larry Segal Law Offices is a solo family, business and civil law practice founded in 1994 by D. Larry Segal, a barrister and solicitor called to the Bar of Ontario in 1993. Segal holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work, along with an Advanced Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. The firm belongs to Collaborative Divorce Ottawa, a group of professionals who help separating families settle matters outside of court.

The firm's business law work goes beyond the usual incorporations, partnerships and shareholder agreements into entertainment and sports law, including contract negotiations and rights disputes. Its civil practice covers personal injury, professional and medical malpractice, insurance litigation, motor vehicle claims and commercial or landlord and tenant disputes, handled through negotiation, mediation, arbitration or trial. The firm keeps two offices, a longstanding location in Ottawa's Gloucester area and a Toronto office inside Law Chambers on University Avenue, and it represents clients from across Ontario.

The neighbourhood

The Ottawa office is on River Road in Gloucester, once its own city with its own council until it merged into Ottawa in 2001. Gloucester is now a large part of the city's east end, home to around 150,000 people across neighbourhoods like Beacon Hill, Blossom Park and Cyrville, a mostly residential and suburban setting rather than the downtown core.

The Toronto office is inside Law Chambers, a shared office building for independent lawyers at 393 University Avenue. That stretch of University Avenue is known for its concentration of courts and legal institutions, including Osgoode Hall and the Toronto Courthouse, which puts a firm that takes family and civil matters to trial close to where much of that work is heard.
