Fitzgerald Family Law is a solo family law practice in Ottawa, founded by Paul Fitzgerald in November 2007. Fitzgerald earned an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 2003 and then articled in the city with Lang Michener LLP, working in commercial litigation and family law. Called to the Ontario bar in the spring of 2004, Fitzgerald stayed on with Lang Michener as a family law associate before moving in the fall of 2006 to Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), one of Canada's largest law firms, to work with its family law litigation practice group. A year later, Fitzgerald opened Fitzgerald Family Law, carrying the training from those larger firms into a smaller, more personal practice.

The firm handles the full range of family law matters, from domestic contracts for people entering a relationship to separation agreements and litigation for those ending one. Its work covers custody and access, child and spousal support, division of family property (including business interests, pensions, and investments), possession of the matrimonial home, and cohabitation agreements and marriage contracts. It's a one-lawyer practice, so clients deal directly with Fitzgerald rather than being passed between associates. The office is on Somerset Street West in Ottawa's Centretown, and the firm offers a free telephone or online consultation before taking on a file.
