Ellis Criminal Law is a London, Ontario firm that has practiced criminal defence exclusively since 2006, when Ron Ellis founded it. Before returning to London in 2003, Ron Ellis worked as a professional educator in Calgary, Alberta, and served as Director of Student Legal Assistance at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. Back in Ontario, the founder was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004 and practised civil litigation at Harrison Pensa LLP before starting the criminal defence practice two years later.

Laura Ellis now leads the firm as principal, called to the Ontario Bar in 2019 and running a first jury trial only four months later; the principal has since built an active jury-trial practice with a focus on impaired driving and sexual assault cases. A third lawyer, Stephen Troyer, joined after being called to the bar in September 2023 and now handles trials, guilty pleas, and bail hearings before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.

The firm represents clients facing the full range of criminal allegations, from impaired driving and assault to firearms, drug, and serious indictable offences including murder, with lawyers appearing at every level of court in Ontario up to the Court of Appeal. It's a small practice: three lawyers plus office and accounts manager Kholood Ghenniwa, who is fluent in both English and Arabic. Each lawyer keeps a direct emergency line open around the clock, on top of the firm's regular office hours Monday to Friday.
