Lewis earned an LLB from the University of Western Ontario in 1992, articled at Ross & McBride in Hamilton, was called to the bar in 1994, and became a partner in 1996. Lewis is also a notary public and practises mainly in real estate, corporate commercial, and wills and estates law. Between them, the partners cover criminal and quasi-criminal defence, construction, administrative, and employment law as well.
