About Hart Law

Hart Law is a sole-practitioner firm with offices in Burlington and Grimsby, Ontario, run by Carolyn Hart. Hart spent the first part of a career of more than 30 years as a litigator representing trade unions and their members before moving into private practice, where the firm now serves individual clients directly. Today it focuses on five areas: employment law, labour law, human rights, wills and estates, and real estate.

As a one-lawyer practice, Hart Law tries to meet clients where they are. It offers virtual consultations alongside in-person meetings at either office, and will visit clients at home when mobility makes travel difficult. Wills prepared at the firm are kept in a fireproof vault with a records management company in Burlington and can be retrieved within 24 hours.

The neighbourhood

Hart Law works from two offices, one in Burlington and one in Grimsby, and builds real flexibility around them. Clients can meet at either office, by video, or at home if travel is difficult, so the practice draws from a wider area than either address alone would suggest.

The Grimsby office is on Main Street West, in the town's older downtown. Grimsby was founded in 1790 by Loyalist families who settled at 40 Mile Creek, and more than 95 percent of the town's pre-1939 buildings are still standing, which gives Main Street West much of its older character.
