About Moote Law

Moote Law is a small family law firm in Oshawa, Ontario, with two lawyers who share the same surname. Sharon Moote founded the practice after being called to the bar in 1988, following several years articling and practicing in downtown Toronto. Sharon moved to Oshawa in 1994 to join a small firm, then opened a solo practice after six years there before building it into what is now Moote Law. The firm focuses on resolving separation and divorce matters without a trial, through collaborative family law, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and mediation-arbitration, along with uncontested divorce and general family law advice covering custody, access, child and spousal support, and property equalization.

Sharon completed collaborative family law training in 2003 and has since built a practice around it, alongside a panel lawyer role with the Office of the Children's Lawyer held since 1997 and a Dispute Resolution Officer role at the Superior Court of Justice held since 2011. Julia A. Moote, who articled at the firm, earned a Juris Doctor from Queen's University, including a term at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and was called to the bar in June 2019. Julia A. Moote accepts legal aid certificates for family law clients.
