Richard J. Mazar Professional Corporation is a solo law practice that has operated under Richard J. Mazar's name continuously since 1979. Today it is based in Newcastle, a village within the Municipality of Clarington in Durham Region, roughly 80 kilometres east of Toronto, and it deliberately limits its client base to small and medium sized businesses and their entrepreneurial owners. Its core work covers business law (corporate, commercial, and contracts), business litigation over construction liens, the sale and purchase of businesses and professional practices, corporate reorganization, and employment law. For the owners and operators of those businesses, the firm also handles personal legal services: real estate conveyancing and wills and estates.

Richard J. Mazar is a lifelong resident of Durham Region, a graduate of O'Neill Collegiate in Oshawa, and holds a BSc from the University of Toronto (1974), an LLB from the University of Ottawa (1977), and an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School (2007). Beyond the practice, Mazar has taught the Corporate Commercial section of the Law Clerks Course at Durham College and the Business Law component of the Bar Admission Course, and served ten years on that course's accreditation committee. Mazar has also spoken at continuing education and construction industry programs and published on business law topics.
