About Atlantic Defence Law

Criminal defence is at the core of Atlantic Defence Law's practice. Working out of Moncton, its lawyers act for people across New Brunswick in English and French, taking on assault, impaired driving and drug cases and standing up for clients at bail hearings. The firm's reach also extends to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Guillaume LeBlanc founded the firm. LeBlanc's practice runs across criminal matters of every kind, from drug and assault charges to bail, impaired driving and refusals, and it includes cases under the Motor Vehicle Act and the Fisheries Act. Adam Garland, a partner, has spent over a decade in the criminal justice system and has appeared at every level of New Brunswick's courts, up to the province's highest bench. Gabrielle Vautour holds both a Juris Doctor and a criminology degree from the Université de Moncton, and has worked with the New Brunswick Ombud's Office and with Probation Services.

The lawyers are backed by an operations lead who runs the business side of the firm and a legal assistant who brings new clients on board and keeps in touch with courthouses and Crown offices. The firm serves clients well outside Moncton, too, in places like Fredericton, Saint John, Edmundston and Bathurst.

The office is on the eighth floor at 770 Main Street, suite 802, in Moncton. First consultations are free, and the firm keeps a cap on how many active cases it carries at once.

Practice areas

Criminal charges and bail

The firm defends violent, drug, property and weapons charges, along with fraud and sexual offence allegations or investigations, and it helps with bail hearings, release plans and bail conditions when someone is in custody. Young people charged with offences get defence work aimed at rehabilitation and the least disruptive outcome. Adam Garland's practice takes in domestic violence and sexual assault charges as well as offences under wildlife and fisheries legislation.

Impaired driving and roadside suspensions

Beyond impaired driving and refusal charges, Atlantic Defence Law prepares and argues Immediate Roadside Suspension appeals, including panel hearings, and takes cases further through judicial review at the Court of King's Bench when an appeal fails. On the practical side, it files Early Release applications for impounded vehicles and handles the paperwork for interlock installation.

Administrative and professional discipline

The firm represents people in professional regulatory complaints, whether they're healthcare workers, real estate agents, tradespeople or in another regulated role, as well as in university and campus proceedings and in workplace or internal investigations.

How Atlantic Defence Law works

Atlantic Defence Law limits the number of active files it takes on at any one time, so each client gets real time and attention. Updates go out by email, and clients who'd rather text can do that instead. The firm also openly invites people to compare lawyers before choosing one, so they end up with the fit that's right for them.

Nobody has to have it all figured out before getting in touch. A first conversation simply starts with what happened, any papers the client has been handed and whatever is worrying them most, and the lawyers take it from there to explain the next steps.

Milestones & recognition

  • Atlantic Defence Law was involved in the litigation surrounding the Tower decision, as part of its judicial review work on Immediate Roadside Suspensions in New Brunswick.

In the community

  • The firm writes plain-language articles on criminal and driving law, among them a breakdown of R. v. Smith, a 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Court decision on cannabis and driving, and a guide to asking the Court of King's Bench to shorten a New Brunswick licence suspension.

The neighbourhood

770 Main Street is also the head office address of Assumption Life, in the Assumption Place building in downtown Moncton. The City of Moncton approved that 20-level office building in 1970. NBTel then realized it would block radio signals from the company's 135 ft tower downtown, and that's why the NBTel Tower, now the Bell Aliant Tower, went up.

The Moncton Law Courts, at 145 Assumption Boulevard, is the Court of King's Bench location for the Judicial District of Moncton, which covers Albert, Westmorland and Kent counties. The courthouse also hosts hearings of the Provincial Court of New Brunswick.

Frequently asked questions

I've been handed an Immediate Roadside Suspension in New Brunswick. How fast do I need to call Atlantic Defence Law?
Atlantic Defence Law asks drivers with an IRS notice to get in touch promptly, because a review under section 310.07 of the Motor Vehicle Act has to be sought within 15 days after the suspension order is served. The firm prepares those appeals, goes through the disclosure and the officer's reports, and represents drivers at panel hearings.
My car was impounded after an impaired driving stop. Can Atlantic Defence Law get it released early?
Atlantic Defence Law completes Early Release applications for impounded vehicles. The application fee in New Brunswick averages $65, and the firm's aim is to move the process along quickly so clients save time and extra cost. (Fees as of October 2026.)
Can Atlantic Defence Law ask the Court of King's Bench to shorten my licence suspension under section 313?
Atlantic Defence Law handles licence-suspension matters in New Brunswick: it reviews a client's driving history, works out which procedure fits, prepares the evidence and appears before the Court of King's Bench where appropriate. Section 313 of the Motor Vehicle Act lets some drivers ask that court to cancel or shorten a suspension, but hardship on its own doesn't make someone eligible.
I'm a healthcare professional facing a regulatory complaint that could also become a criminal matter. Can the firm help with both?
Atlantic Defence Law represents healthcare professionals and people in other regulated roles in regulatory complaints, and it helps clients through administrative and criminal processes that run in parallel, with the aim of keeping a move in one from hurting their position in the other. Work starts with a confidential consultation covering the complaint or investigation, the deadlines involved and any risk of criminal exposure.
Can Adam Garland or Gabrielle Vautour defend me in French?
Atlantic Defence Law serves clients in both English and French. Adam Garland and Gabrielle Vautour are both bilingual lawyers, and the firm's paralegal works with clients in either language too.
