About Philip

Philip Whalen is the principal lawyer and founder of Whalen Law, a barrister, solicitor, and notary. He began his legal career with James D. Hughes, K.C. and Katrina Brannan, K.C., first as a student-at-law in 2012 and then as an associate lawyer in 2014. His practice covers criminal law, personal injury, civil litigation, property transactions, and estates. He has appeared before all levels of court in the province as both trial and appellate counsel, and routinely appears in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in civil and criminal matters. He is the local agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, prosecuting federal offences such as those under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Cannabis Act, and the Fisheries Act. He is a member of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.
