He advises people who are married and seeking divorce, in civil unions seeking dissolution, or common-law partners uncertain of their rights after a separation, helping them decide on the right path for their situation. He offers family mediation to help separating couples reach agreement on matters such as parental authority, custody, child support, and division of the family patrimony and matrimonial regime, describing mediation as generally the fastest and least costly route and noting that Quebec subsidizes mediation in some cases. Once a couple reaches an agreement, he can draft and file the paperwork needed to have it recognized by the court, including joint applications for divorce or separation from bed and board. Where mediation is not appropriate, such as when substance abuse, mental health issues, or family violence are involved, he represents clients directly before the courts as a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
