Douglas DePaulo was born and raised in Hamilton and obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1979. Called to the Bar in 1981, he practised exclusively in real estate, corporate law, and wills and estates, and was managing partner of Yachetti, Lanza & Restivo LLP until it dissolved in 2017. He founded Escarpment Law Group with Aldo Berlingieri in 2011 and retired in the fall of 2023 after 42 years of practice.
