About Beach Avenue Barristers

Beach Avenue Barristers is a small litigation firm in Vancouver with an emphasis on administrative law related to professional regulation, including investigations and disciplinary proceedings. The firm represents both professional regulators and the licensees and other professionals those regulators investigate, and its office on West 7th Avenue has been its base since January 2022.

All three of the firm's lawyers came to this niche through direct experience at the Law Society of British Columbia. Henry C. Wood, KC studied at Glendon College and Osgoode Hall Law School, was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008, and spent nearly two decades as an adjunct professor of professional ethics and advocacy at the Allard School of Law. Jaia Rai articled at Oliver & Company and spent eight years as an associate at Crossin Coristine before joining the Law Society in 2006, eventually managing its Discipline and Unauthorized Practice groups, then returning to private practice in 2017. Gurprit Bains, called to the bar in 1999, served as the Law Society's Deputy Chief Legal Officer and a senior anti-money-laundering specialist before joining the firm, and holds a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist designation.
