About Aspiring Law

Aspiring Law is a solo estate planning and probate practice in Terrace, British Columbia, founded by lawyer Laura Cochrane. The firm is incorporated as a British Columbia benefit company, a structure that comes with a legal duty to create a positive impact for society and the environment and to publish an annual report measuring its progress and accountability. Aspiring Law also has pending B Corporation status and is working toward full certification. Before starting the practice, Cochrane spent seven years as a lawyer with Warner Bandstra Brown, helping families across Northwestern British Columbia with estates, property, and planning matters.

Cochrane grew up and studied law in New Zealand, lived in Sweden, and interned with the European Commission in Ireland before settling in Terrace. The firm's founder holds a law degree and a science degree from the University of Otago, a master's in European law from Stockholm University, and an executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology. Cochrane was first enrolled as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 2012, then qualified with the Law Society of British Columbia in 2018. Today the firm focuses on wills, powers of attorney, and representation agreements, probate and estate administration, including resealing grants of probate issued outside BC, along with residential subdivisions and corporate restorations for dissolved BC companies.
