Peter Robertson and Gary Brooke opened the original practice, called Robertson Brooke, on the third floor of what is now the downtown Credit Union building. Derek McManus joined as a partner in 1981, and the firm became Robertson Brooke McManus. Robin Jackson started as an articled student in 1980 and made partner the following year, practicing until retiring in 2006. Jim Downs joined as an associate in 1993 and made partner in 1994. Kathryn Vennard became a partner in 2014, and the firm took its current name.
Gary Brooke retired in 2012 after 33 years of practice with the firm. BDV LLP now works out of a Harbourfront Drive office in downtown Salmon Arm, in a building called the Dovewood, and has grown into one of the larger firms in the community while staying easy for clients to reach. Its seven lawyers and an articling student cover property, corporate, wills and estates, and litigation matters.
