About Hirshlaw

Hirshlaw is a business law practice led by Daniel Hirsh. Before opening the firm, Daniel Hirsh spent a career as a partner at large Toronto law firms, acting on behalf of lenders, borrowers, investors, corporations, and their principals. Hirshlaw was built around a different model: a shorter client list and a narrower set of mandates, with the aim of bringing the same focus and enthusiasm to each file that entrepreneurial clients bring to their own ventures.

The practice follows a business through its life cycle, from start-up, incorporation, and structuring through shareholder agreements and arrangements, financing and equity rounds, and the purchase or sale of businesses and business lines. Hirshlaw says it relies on trained law clerks and its own document assembly software to keep the work efficient, an approach meant to give clients direct access to experienced counsel without the layers of a large firm.

The neighbourhood

Hirshlaw's office is on Cavendish Street, a short residential block in Toronto's Beaches neighbourhood. The block sits within walking distance of Glen Stewart Ravine and the shops and cafes along Queen Street East, with the Lake Ontario boardwalk a short walk further south. It's a largely residential setting rather than a downtown office corridor, in keeping with a practice built around a smaller, direct client list instead of a high-rise business address.
