Graham & Shouldice is a small family law practice at 124 Merton Street in Toronto's Davisville area, run by two lawyers, Deborah Graham and Cameron Shouldice, who share the firm's name. Both concentrate exclusively on family law, and neither practice is built around the courtroom; both focus instead on collaborative family law and mediation. Shouldice was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995 and has practiced family law exclusively since, later becoming a founding member and two term board member of Collaborative Practice Toronto. Graham has practiced family law exclusively for more than thirty years and holds an undergraduate degree in commerce, which gives the firm's settlement work an added grounding in business and franchise valuations.
Graham and Shouldice have also published a joint statement of principles that commits the firm to inclusion and to addressing discrimination and bias toward visible and invisible minorities, including LGBTTQQ+ clients and people living with disabilities or health conditions. Outside client files, Graham has taught collaborative lawyering as adjunct faculty at Osgoode Hall Law School and negotiation at Lincoln Alexander Law School, co-founded the Mediation Training Centre, and wrote "A Guide to a Sensible Divorce." Shouldice's practice draws on a background in business valuation and wealth management issues that often come up in family law settlements, and the firm connects clients with financial planners, valuators, and accountants when a file calls for it.
By appointmentGraham & Shouldice's office is at 124 Merton Street, in the Davisville area of midtown Toronto, a neighbourhood built up around apartment and condominium towers constructed from the 1970s onward. The building itself is set up to be accessible, with push button entry, an exterior ramp, two elevators, and a wheelchair accessible washroom in the lobby.
Because both lawyers work mainly through collaborative process and mediation rather than the courtroom, clients tend to spend their time at the firm in scheduled meetings at the office rather than waiting around a courthouse, so the building's accessibility features matter for that kind of practice.
