About Palmateer & Nicol Professional Corporation

Palmateer & Nicol Professional Corporation is a small general practice law firm on King Street West in downtown Bolton, within the Town of Caledon. Robert B.G. Palmateer opened the firm's first office on Queen Street South in Bolton on April 12, 1976, three days after being called to the Ontario bar, after earning a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo in 1971 and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1974. The practice grew and moved to its current King Street West address in the summer of 1986.

Pat Muise joined the firm as an articling student and became a partner in 1980, building a civil and family litigation practice as Palmateer & Muise until retiring in 2015. Chandler M. Nicol, a graduate of Queen's University and the University of Leicester's law school who was called to the bar in 2015, joined Palmateer in 2017 after practicing litigation at a Toronto firm. The firm was renamed Palmateer & Nicol Professional Corporation that year, and Nicol's focus shifted to real estate, wills and estates, and small business work. The two-lawyer firm now concentrates on real estate, wills and estates, and corporate and commercial law, and Palmateer belongs to the Peel Law Association and to Canadian Bar Association sections in those fields.

The neighbourhood

The office sits on King Street West in downtown Bolton, within the area covered by the Downtown Bolton Business Improvement Area. Palmateer & Nicol has practiced from that stretch of King Street West since the summer of 1986, after Robert Palmateer first opened the firm on Queen Street South in Bolton in 1976.

Bolton has grown up around the firm since then, and the firm's own materials describe modern Caledon as a rapidly expanding area for small business. Palmateer & Nicol's corporate and real estate work spans both ends of that growth, from long-time family businesses to newer local start-ups, all from the same King Street West office it has occupied since 1986.
